High-performance, tournament-ready rig lauded for design, aggressive price point

MURFREESBORO, TENN (May 4, 2009) In its May 2009 issue, Boating Life magazine names the Stratos 201XL Evolution to its list of Top-10 best boats of the year. Selected for its impressive performance, fast hull, intuitive storage layout, unparalleled fishability and value for anglers in search of a tournament-ready rig, the 201XL Evolution was the only bass-specific vessel to make the prestigious list.

At home anywhere from a local, weeknight jackpot to the highest levels of professional bass fishing, the Stratos 201XL Evolution brings anglers impressive performance, increased stability and an interior layout focused on efficiency – all packaged under $40,000 with select motor configurations.

"It's no surprise to us that the bass-boat market remains strong, and for that reason, we pushed the edge with our choice for a tournament-ready bass boat that barely makes the $40,000 ceiling in our Top 10," wrote Boating Life editor Randy Vance. "At a base price of $39,999, (w/ Yamaha 150) we think it's on the value side with a big nod to the stuff bass anglers want. Stuff like an Al Stinson-designed hull. Few boatbuilders hold more patents in hull-and-deck design and few bass boats have the reputation of achieving higher speeds per horsepower than Stinson's designs."

With more space, increased fishability and a host of custom features, the 2009 Stratos 201XL Evolution is designed to capitalize on the brand's decades of performance leadership.

"We didn't build a lightweight boat. The Evolution comes in at 1,900 pounds, but it's hydrodynamically efficient, and the speed comes from the efficiency, not by taking material out to make it lighter," said Stratos Boats Design Engineer Al Stinson, who designed the hull for the 201XL Evolution. "Thanks to its beefy build, we can still offer a lifetime warranty."

Rated for a maximum 250 horsepower, the 20-foot, 9-inch 201XL Evolution is built with performance in mind and is available with a wide range of factory-rigged outboards. From a hotrod-inspired instrument panel complete with a full complement of performance and diagnostic gauges, to a huge front casting deck and 8-foot rod storages – the 201XL Evolution gives competitive anglers a tournament-ready rig focused on fishing.

Available in single- and dual-console configurations coming standard with Humminbird 767 electronics, 24-volt Minn Kota Maxxum trolling motor and on-board battery charger, the Stratos 201XL Evolution is loaded with lockable storage and includes an organized center rod locker and tackle management system. The 40-gallon, Flow Rite livewell also features a new acrylic design and comes equipped with a removable divider.

"Of the 100-plus boat models we've had our hands on, some have stood out for their departure from the norm," the magazine wrote in its Top-10 list introduction. "Others stayed with us because of their solid feel at the wheel. Another group heightened our interest when we found out how much they cost. The chosen few… grabbed us for doing all of the above."
